Juan Martín Baigorria (b. Argentina, 1977) is a photographer, documentary filmmaker, and Director of Photography based in Bologna, Italy. Originally trained in Computer Engineering, he later pivoted to follow his passion for the visual arts, blending technical precision with a profound humanistic gaze.
For the past 15 years, Juan Martín has been a key collaborator at Sunset, a prominent film production house. As a DoP and camera operator, he has contributed to several acclaimed documentaries, including:
La prigione Invisibile (The Invisible Prison), Una scelta di dignità (A Choice of Dignity), Dalle onde del mondo (From the Waves of the World), A Bagnile vivevan gli eroi (Heroes Lived in Bagnile).
As a director, his work focuses on pressing social issues and cross-cultural narratives. His documentary “Aicha è tornata” (Aicha is Back), which explores Moroccan counter-migration, received numerous awards at international festivals. He also directed “Syrian Edge,” a documentary commissioned by the European Union focused on Syrian refugees in Lebanon. In 2018, he released “Les Amoureux des Bancs Publics,” a film documenting the role of Street Art in post-Arab Spring Tunisia.
Juan Martín continues to push the boundaries of visual storytelling. His recent and upcoming credits as Director of Photography include Interno 18 (2024), directed by Matteo Lolletti and Every Birthday (2025), directed by Agnese Navoni.
Beyond his film career, he is a dedicated photographer whose reportage work covers migration in Morocco and Syria, as well as the Arab Spring. For the last decade, he has been developing two significant Fine Art and Reportage projects in Southeast Asia, showcasing his long-term commitment to capturing complex global realities through his lens.
Juan Martin Baigorria (n. in Argentina, 1977), residente a Bologna da diversi anni, è fotografo, documentarista e direttore della fotografia. Ha studiato ingegneria informatica per poi dedicarsi completamente alle arti visive. Da 15 anni lavora per Sunset, casa di produzione cinematografica con la quale ha realizzato come direttore della fotografia e operatore i documentari “La prigione Invisibile”, “Una scelta di dignità”, “Dalle onde del mondo” e “A Bagnile vivevan gli eroi”. Come regista ha prodotto il film documentario “Aicha è tornata” sulle contro-migrazioni marocchine ottenendo vari premi in festival e concorsi e “Syrian Edge” sui profughi siriani in Libano, documentario commissionato dall’Unione Europea. Nel 2018 è uscito Les Amoureux des Bancs Publics, che racconta il ruolo della Street Art in Tunisia dopo la Primavera Araba. Ha realizzato diversi reportage fotografici sulle migrazioni marocchine, su quelle siriane e sulla primavera araba.
Nel 2024 è direttore della fotografia per Interno 18 di Matteo Lolletti e nel 2025 per Every Birthday di Agnese Navoni.
Da 10 anni sta sviluppando due progetti di fine art e reportage in Sudest Asiatico.
